Concordia is a small school with many religious activities to keep the students involved. The campus also keeps students involved through organizations relevant to the students' major. The Student population becomes so closely knit due to the small population size that Concordia is much like the home to a large family.
Do you have any tips for prospective students?
Be outgoing and get to know people. It is a small community but the large city is right around the corner. People on campus are more than willing to talk and share stories with one another. Professors also make themselves available as resources, so use them!
Do you find there’s enough academic rigor at your school?
Professors are all dedicated to seeing their students excel, but this is not a downfall. This does not mean that classes are easy but instead the professors challenge you and expect a lot from their students. They do not give out busy work but give assignments that relevant to the course work.
Describe the dorm life at your college.
The dorms are small and allow the students in each hall to get well acquainted and build relationships. The small residence number also allows for activities to be done as a dorm, including movie nights, cookouts, and servant events. There are also regularly scheduled dorm cleanings to ensure that they stay clean.
Describe the food and dining at your college.
There are two options on campus for food, the first being the cafeteria and the second being the Nest. The cafeteria's quality of food is sometimes wary, but it has been improving. The food service's contract is also up and change/improvement is in the near future. The Nest is the option for snacks throughout the day as well as late night meals. This is the place to go to hang out with friends, see who else is out and about, study, and take a food break. Events are also held there occasionally, such as euchre tournaments, open mic nights, etc.
What’s there to do for fun at your college?
Campus does not always excel in the entertainment department, a few good friends can go a long way. Ann Arbor and city-life is also right down the road to provide recreational activities, especially on weekends when many students go home.
Do you feel you’re getting value for the money you’re spending on college?
The sticker price is initially high, but financial aid packages provided through Concordia take care of much of the cost and can even bring it down to being cheaper than a public university.
Which types of students will excel at your college?
Concordia is great for students looking for a small community. This allows teachers to build close relationships with each student. Ann Arbor is also right down the road providing a big city atmosphere right along with the small campus feel, providing an environment for every personality type and every mood.
How would you describe campus safety? Do you feel safe on campus?
Security is able to be called at any hour of the day. They especially come in handy when you lock yourself out of your dorm room!
