Review of College of St. Joseph the Worker

from Pittsburgh, PA

In which ways do you feel you are learning and growing?

The College, being in the heart of Steubenville, has provided ample opportunities for us as students to learn to live well among others in a community. The campus is not isolated, and thus the students are not isolated. This has been a phenomenal experience for me in learning how to live among others.

How are you enjoying your time at this college?

Of the time spent here, I have greatly enjoyed it. The community is wonderful, and everything I am learning is very informative, with some of it being a delight. And further, it has allowed its students, including myself, to grow in many ways.

What tips can you share with prospective students?

For anyone considering this school, I would advise the following:

1) Build clean habits and a disciplined lifestyle: You will be responsible for keeping your house clean; as such, it is easier to start sooner rather than later.

2) Start learning how to cook properly: you will be responsible for preparing your own meals, and as such, should learn not only how to prepare healthy food, but also in a manner that is efficient and clean.

3) Develop a strong work ethic: You will be pushed hard, so begin aspiring to work hard.

4) Strive to become less dependent on technology: this school's primary interest is in developing its students to be virtuous persons who, though being familiar with technological tools, are not bound by them. As such, spend less time using technology and more time learning how to use your mind. And further, for entertainment, strive for the same: shut off the phone and read a book, or something else apart from screen time.

In what ways do you feel this college challenges students academically?

The College pushes its students hard: this includes a large amount of reading and difficult exams, primarily, with a secondary emphasis on assignments. Furthermore, students must seek to use flexibility of mind rather than memorization when working with the texts. However, due to the greater difficulty, the students who work hard will learn a lot in a short time.
