Cleveland State has proved to me that you do not need to go to an Ivy League School to be challenged. When Cleveland State says that their students experience engaged learning, they really are telling the truth. The professors really want you to understand what they are teaching, which I personally enjoy.
Do you enjoy the experience at your school?
Cleveland State has many activities to be involved in, from Student Government to recreational sports. Every Wednesday, CAB (the Campus Activities Board) usually has free giveaways, ranging from food to mugs. The campus even sends emails about events happening on or around campus. I am happy that as a student, I can get into athletic events for free. Also, downtown Cleveland is a great place to be because there is always something to do. With my Viking card, I can get discounts to activities happening around the city.
Do you feel you’re getting value for the money you’re spending on college?
I am in the Honors Program, which pays full tuition, class fees, and books. The Honors Program only requires that you keep a 3.5 GPA. This really helps my family financially. The only payment needed to pay is room and board. Also, Cleveland State has the second-lowest tuition rate of all the universities of Ohio, which is relieving.
Do you have any tips for prospective students?
If you decide on Cleveland State, prepare to get a preview of the real world. From seeing different types of cultures, to having to make my own decisions, Cleveland State has helped me to become more of an adult than when I was before I started college. Do not expect to see the same kind of attitudes in college as you saw in high school.
Which types of students will excel at your college?
Cleveland State would be great for students who:
-love big cities,
-want to experience diversity,
-are serious about academics, and
-like to save money!
