The American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Los Angeles opened in 1974, a sister campus to the original New York one founded in 1884. The American Academy of Dramatic Arts teaches the process and preparation of acting as a craft through “an immersive educational experience.” The LA campus is located in Hollywood, adjacent to the first movie studio back lot, and features acting and camera studios. The institution confers Associate degrees (through their 2-year Conservatory Program), at the end of which students can audition for The Academy Company. They also have academic partnerships for completion of a bachelor’s degree.

Additional Costs
Room and Board The weighted average for room and board and other expenses is generated as follows:
  • (amount for on-campus room, board and other expenses * # of students living on-campus.
  • + amount for off-campus (with family) room, board and other expenses * # of students living off-campus with family
  • + amount for off-campus (not with family) room, board and other expenses * # of students living off-campus not with family)
divided by the total # of students. Students whose living arrangements are unknown are excluded from the calculation. For some institutions the # of students by living arrangement will be known, but dollar amounts will not be known. In this case the # of students with no corresponding dollar amount will be excluded from the denominator.
