Review of Western Piedmont Community College

from Rutherfordton, NC

In which ways do you feel you are learning and growing?

I feel that my understanding and views of many current issues and various viewpoints have expanded greatly.

How are you enjoying your time at this college?

I have really enjoyed my time at this college as they have a very united and collaborative student and instructor group.

What tips can you share with prospective students?

Always be open to learning more and in whatever career you are going for, study hard and do your best in everything.

What qualities do you have that have best prepared you for success at this institution?

I believe that one quality I have is my enthusiasm for education and eventually patient care. Another would be my willingness to stay dedicated to my future goals, no matter how much time and work it takes to obtain them.

In what ways do you feel this college challenges students academically?

All the classes I have taken have been well-instructed and challenging. Each of my instructors has encouraged hard work and while being helpful throughout the course, their assignments have generally proven demanding and difficult.

How would you describe the dorm life at this school?

Western Piedmont Community College does not offer housing.

How would you describe the food and dining options?

There are two cafeterias on campus, and despite their small size, the dining options have always been of good quality.

In your experience, what is there to do for fun at this college?

One of the best things that could have happened to the college was the formation of a basketball team, this last fall. Besides that, the college frequently has social events.

In what clubs or organiziations have you participated and how have they impacted your overall experience?

About a month ago, I started a college chapter called Turning Point USA at Western Piedmont Community College. So far, it has been a wonderful learning experience for me. It has shown the importance of encouraging students to discuss important issues going on today and also allows bringing students together.

Are there any quirky or unique traditions that make your college special?

As I am now finishing my very first year at Western Piedmont and my first time at any college at all, I haven't discovered anything unique to my college.

How does this institution support campus safety or mental health and wellness programs?

WPCC has many offices dedicated to these purposes. Free counseling at any time has always been a well-provided option on campus.
There have always been kind and helpful people from the Campus Security Department to help with any safety issues.

How has your college supported your career development and future goals?

Besides having one-on-one counseling services, general student services, free tutoring in most subjects, and a well-supplied library, there is also the Academic Success Center. This organization is wholly devoted to the student's completion of their education and goals.
My academic advisor and success coach have also been greatly helpful in guiding my decisions regarding classes and my plans for further education. They have always been extremely encouraging, supportive, and accommodating.
