Review of Valparaiso University

from Rensselaer, IN

Describe your college in three sentences.

A small private school in Northwest Indiana. It offers the academics of larger schools and is extremely reputable. Outside of class, everyone is obsessed with Valparaiso Basketball.

Do you have any tips for prospective students?

Do not come here thinking you can blow off school and not go to class. Most everyone here cares extremely about their grades and were good and accelerated students in high school. You make your own fun and get what you put in.

Do you find there’s enough academic rigor at your school?

This school is an academic school. Going to class and trying are a must.

Describe the dorm life at your college.

Average dorm life. Total rip off for what you get. Similar to other schools. Considering the amount of money to attend here, it should be nicer than it is.

Describe the food and dining at your college.

Some of the best college food you will ever have. My only complaint is that it is ala carte, so every item costs money. If you eat a lot of food like me, than this isn't ideal. The school spikes their prices very unethically.

What’s there to do for fun at your college?

Go downtown, watch movies with friends, etc. This place truly is where you make your own fun. If you want to have fun, you will.

Do you feel you’re getting value for the money you’re spending on college?

A very good value. Getting a reputable degree for a good price (at least for me). IF YOU DON'T RECEIVE A SCHOLARSHIP TO REDUCE THE PRICE, DO NOT GO HERE. I REPEAT DO NOT GO HERE. IT COSTS $51,000 STICKER PRICE.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Obsession with Valpo basketball. Professors really take attendance, and there are a lot of strange people walking around.

Which types of students will excel at your college?

People who care about their grades and not willing to put in a little more effort to get a nice degree.

Are you involved in any clubs or activities?

Plenty of stuff for anyone. Literally, if you have the slightest interest, there is probably a club that will be similar or will accommodate your interests.

Are you involved in any clubs or activities?

I am a fraternity member. This is not a state school, so don't expect state school Greek life. But, for the size of this school, it does go above and beyond as far as expectations.

How would you describe campus safety? Do you feel safe on campus?

Valpo is a safe community statistically speaking. Valpo city police, Porter County, and VUPD are very present and make sure the environment is safe.
