The campus is very well taken care of. There is a lot to do as long as you actually get OUT OF YOUR ROOM to do something (I am an event planner on campus, trust me.) Finally, the tuition is cheap and you are getting a lot for what you pay.
Do you have any tips for prospective students?
Start networking, the more people you know the more you will enjoy, and succeed, at UWGB. The only way to network is by being outgoing, so don't ever be afraid to approach someone (people love confidence). I have a job on campus because I went out and tried yoga and then I met the instructor who introduced me to the Kress Events Center coordinator. For the high school students: Make sure you study, this isn't high school anymore, you have professors, not teachers; you will learn this lesson well.
Do you find there’s enough academic rigor at your school?
My most difficult courses so far have been Chemistry I and II. I managed a 3.61 GPA through studying and utilizing the FREE tutoring center. Basically, I would think this college is just as demanding as most colleges. Which, in all honesty, is not anymore demanding than highschool. The big thing I have noticed, is that instead of being assigned homework (which forces you to study) you MUST be disciplined to study on your own. In other words, poor discipline = poor grades. ABOVE ALL, the professors are hard working and caring. I have already met three professors I greatly admire and I would take classes in the future with.
Describe the dorm life at your college.
I live off campus, but I hear mixed reviews about dorm life. Most of it though, is good reviews. Most of the time after your first year (or even your first semester) you can move into the apartments which are very nice. Rule number 1 about dorm life though, your dorm = community. Don't disrupt that community or you will soon find that you don't like your living situation and you are just plain miserable.
Describe the food and dining at your college.
The food is delicious and affordable. I frequent the cafes on campus and occasionally eat lunch from the cafeteria. You must try the stir fries and the green leaf salad!
What’s there to do for fun at your college?
I am programmer for Good Times Programming, a board of students who brings fun to students (or the students to fun). There is frequently musicians on campus (we brought Hot Chelle Rae and Breathe Carolina here). There is always something to do as I mentioned as long as you don't say no to opportunity. ALSO there is FREE group exercise classes and your tuition covers membership at the Kress Center (high quality work out facility). I work at the Kress as a group instructor and will likely be becoming a personal trainer there as well. If you like working out, the Kress will feel like home because there is great, positive community there.
Do you feel you’re getting value for the money you’re spending on college?
Just an outline:
Living on campus (dorm) + full meal plan (plenty of food) + full time tuition= about $18,000 for the ENTIRE SEMESTER.
This is what you get: Top notch education + You get FED + you get housed.
Not enough for you? Free entertainment brought on campus (musicians, comedians, hypnotists, speakers, movies, activities) + Chances to do things like travel to Chicago and stay for the weekend or go and see the Milwaukee Brewers for HALF THE PRICE (this sort of event is what I program for) + gym membership (and free group classes) for free + CHEAP personal training sessions + a LOT more.
For $18,000 a year, you get a lot of great things.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus
There is the graduation tree, all the graduates throw their shoes onto the tree, something all students look forward to doing. Location, there are underground tunnels connecting building, so you don't have to deal with too hot or too cold of weather.
Which types of students will excel at your college?
Sociable, disciplined, open-minded, and active students. This school is not geared towards any one specific education path. Many people, from all different areas, have become very successful post-graduation.
Are you involved in any clubs or activities?
There are tons of clubs and PLENTY of activities.
Are you involved in any clubs or activities?
Sorry to say, there is one fraternity on campus and it is not very special. Same story for the sorority. But that can always change if someone comes along.
How would you describe campus safety? Do you feel safe on campus?
The campus is small enough where you don't have to worry about a lot of things. Even if you do get nervous, there is a security escort service.
