Review of University of Delaware

from Fairfield, CT

Do you feel you’re learning a lot?

Pulling an all nighter never seemed so exciting before. One computer science class, and I felt like I could tackle and computer programming question out there. Most classes are similar in the amount of learning that goes on. Everywhere you turn, you will see students seeking help or offering help. Don't be afraid to ask for help.

Do you enjoy the experience at your school?

Great social lifestyle. All the dorms are close to classes and people are generally welcoming and friendly. Partying is big here, so pick your social scene carefully.

Do you feel you’re getting value for the money you’re spending on college?

Ranked on Princeton Review's 'Worst financial Aid' list, Delaware definitely isn't a place for someone looking for a full ride. With an out-of-state price tag of about 32,000 a year, one might find it hard to afford without some sort of financial aid or scholarships.

Do you have any tips for prospective students?

The University of Delaware is a very eye-catching institution. It boasts a beautiful campus that will hook you the minute you lay eyes on the main green. However, don't let it get to your head too much. Consider the majors you're interested in, as well as the social atmosphere of the school. It is a smaller state school than other Division I schools, but nonetheless just as competitive. Engineering, Business, and Chemistry are notoriously competitive majors here. Be ready to be up late for papers, studying, and socializing. You're best friends are your neighbors. The dorms contain a wealth of information helpful for surviving college. If you ever struggle in a class, do not be afraid to schedule an appointment with an advisor or professor. They are your best friends. If they can't find an answer to your problems, they will find someone that can answer to you.

Which types of students will excel at your college?

If you like to network and meet new people, Delaware is right for you. Also, if you like to work hard, and feel rewarded afterwards, Delaware is also right for you. Basically, it is a school suited for anyone. However, it is you're own personal college experience, and it is here for you to make what you want out of it. Nobody is going to force you to become something/someone, but everyone is here to help shape a great life experience. An open minded student with a positive attitude is welcome at Delaware on any given day.
