Alex's Review
Review of University of Central Florida
What tips can you share with prospective students?
Join a club your first semester! I know it’s scary and I sound like your mom/dad but honestly that is exactly how I made my first friends. Plan out when your exams are and do NOT procrastinate with studying. I find it super helpful to add my entire life to a google calendar and block of times to study and it helps me to stick to it. Also, the first week there are tons of events don’t be afraid to go alone, I’ve met so many people just by standing next to them and saying hi chances are they are freshman too and looking for friends.
In what ways do you feel this college challenges students academically?
I think UCF is pretty special in the way it offers unique classes that are geared towards your major and not often seen in other colleges. For example, I am a biology major studying pre-veterinary medicine and they offer Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy which is anatomy but for animals and super helpful to be able to take a class that will help me prepare for vet school.
In what clubs or organiziations have you participated and how have they impacted your overall experience?
Since I am a biology focused pre-vet student, I joined a couple different bio clubs and mostly to make friends and it helped that we already had something in common. I joined the Herpetology society (study of reptiles and amphibians), the Pre-Vet society, and Beta Psi Omega (co-ed professional biology fraternity). I joined all of these my freshman year and can honestly say it was the best thing I’ve done especially with BPO since it’s a small RSO, I’ve made lifelong friends and am now the President.
