Review of University of Arkansas

from Fayetteville, AR

Describe your college in three sentences.

It is an excellent school to attend that delivers a quality education! Between the faculty and students it is very diverse, there are lots of things to do outdoors, there are always sporting events to attend, the arts also thrive at the U of A. Best of all, Woo Pig Sooie!

Do you have any tips for prospective students?

Go to class. You cannot learn anything if you don't attend class, and most students who skip end up dropping. If you are struggling in a course then they have an awesome tutoring program and the teachers are usually really flexible in their office hours.

Do you find there’s enough academic rigor at your school?

Be careful if you're taking a general education class that you don't accidentally enroll in a freshman "weed-out" class (an entry class for a specific major that is meant to reduce the number of students entering a program that increases the probability of success of the students who make it into the program and helps students learn that the major they've entered might not be right for them). If you are in a really difficult class, having a professor who teaches well and cares about the success of the students, most professors, makes the class a lot easier!

Describe the dorm life at your college.

This varies from dorm to dorm as far as the quality of the dorm goes, but they are overall pretty good. You are going to find people you love and people you can't stand anywhere you go, but in the dorms you have to live with them.

Describe the food and dining at your college.

Dorm food is fine. Brough is good, as is Brough 'to go'. The student Union has pretty decent food as well. The food on campus is a little better than can be expected from a college. However, Fayetteville and the rest of Northwest Arkansas have amazing restaurants! If you want it, we have it!

What’s there to do for fun at your college?

Basically, if you love the outdoors you can do anything you want from hiking to swimming, rock climbing, the walking and biking trails are second to none, mountain biking just 30 minutes north in Bentonville, lakes, you can rent canoes. You can rent a hammock and put it up anywhere on campus (there are tons of trees, around the greek theatre and old main are popular ham mocking hot spots). If the outdoors aren't for you then there are the movies, Fayetteville has an awesome drive-in movies theatre. The Walton Arts Center frequently has awesome shows on! The Faulkner Performing Arts Center is a great place to see student performances (second to none). Dickson Street has a plethora of meanings when its name is said and it is most frequented at night, but is also pretty awesome during the day as well!

Do you feel you’re getting value for the money you’re spending on college?

Chick-fil-A Razorback Road has a student special every Tuesday where you can buy a large number 1 meal for $4! Taco bell offers students discounts, as do a number of other places! Keep track of your student ID, it comes in handy!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The lowest level of Mullins Library (AKA "the dungeon") is eerily quiet, but is a great place to study, as are any of the other floors except for the second (main) level because it receives the most traffic. There's also a really pretty garden across from the bus station and Epley Band Building by the Theatre building with a mini outdoor theatre and a koi pond.

Are you involved in any clubs or activities?

C4 Nightclub and Lounge is a Gay club but it doesn't even matter if you're not gay because it is literally the most LIT place in Fayetteville! Don't knock it until you try it!

How would you describe campus safety? Do you feel safe on campus?

U of A Campus police are vigilant and very concerned for the safety of the students! If anything unsavory happens to you, they will be there in a flash to help you! Your safety is their number one priority! The U of A campus is very safe! Also, 'Safe Ride' is available for students and is a lifesaver if you are out late at night! As always, have fun in college, but be smart too!
