Review of Texas A & M University-College Station

from Rowlett, TX

Describe your college in three sentences.

Big school, but feels like a small town. You know your classmates and teacher, and they know (and care) about you. A&M also has the the best animation graduate program outside of a trade school.

Do you have any tips for prospective students?

You will walk everywhere, but you'd be surprised how far you can get in 15 minutes. Apply early, and apply for housing immediately. That application date is yours until you move off campus. Food is great on campus, but it's better for you to get more Dining Dollars than Meal Trades.

Do you find there’s enough academic rigor at your school?

You will have to do your work, especially freshman year. They want to weed out those who can't succeed.

Describe the dorm life at your college.

Some dorms are more united than others. My dorm, we all pretty much ignored each other. My friend's dorm had it's own Bonfire crew and hung out off campus.

Describe the food and dining at your college.

Nice variety, plus there are places all over campus. Unfortunately a lot of them are M-F 9-5. http://www.dineoncampus.com/tamu/ is your friend.

Do you feel you’re getting value for the money you’re spending on college?

Have you heard of the Aggie Network? Basically, if you have your ring, other Ags will see it and will like you a bit more. Also, ever heard this joke? Hey dude, what do you call an Aggie in 10 years? I don't know, what? Boss.

How would you describe campus safety? Do you feel safe on campus?

There are plenty of campus cops, and the school is very good about sending out emails whenever any sort of incident happens on campus with the location, time, and type of incident. The single greatest thing though, is the Corp Escorts. On the back of your ID there is a phone number. If you call it, a Corp Cadet will come to where you are and escort you to wherever you need to go (on campus). No questions asked, just a tough guy or gal ready to help you feel safe heading back to your dorm at 2am.
