Brockport is a small yet supportive community in which students can really be themselves and set out to be the best they can be. The professors really care if you learn and we have a great Student Learning Center for all your tutoring needs. The campus is also quite beautiful in every season.
Do you have any tips for prospective students?
Make sure Brockport is the right choice for you by attending an open house and perhaps even one of our Scholar Sleepovers so that you can get a feel for what living here would feel like.
Do you find there’s enough academic rigor at your school?
I suppose this depends on the courses you take. If we are talking Art 101 or a swimming class, of course its going to be easy. But if you take many Biology and Chemistry classes like I did, you will know the classes here are hard but fair.
Describe the dorm life at your college.
I'm an RA in one of the Freshman Dorms and I truly believe the learning happens in the dorm, not the classroom. You learn how to live with others, how to do your own laundry, interact with fellow residents at building events, and of course start an independent living style. Our dorms are cleaned every morning by our cleaning staff and those who live corridor style also have bleached bathrooms every morning. We have lounges with flat screens, no-pay laundry rooms, and study rooms equipped with white boards.
Describe the food and dining at your college.
We are rated #1 in SUNY schools when it comes to our dining experiences. Harrison and Brockway, our two dining halls are full buffet and are ready to accommodate every life style (vegetarian, vegan, etc.)
What’s there to do for fun at your college?
Every Friday we have a local movie theatre that has $1 tickets available for midnight showings.
We have an ice-skating rink open Friday nights
We have hundreds of clubs, from Taekwondo and Rugby, to Equestrian Club and clubs for every major
We have a bowling ally right up the road
Right down the road we have Main Street, a cute little part of town that has the movie theatre, coffee shops, pizza joints, bars, smoke shops, and more
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus
Brock the Port - a HUGE on campus celebration after spring break
Are you involved in any clubs or activities?
Hundreds of clubs and activities to choose from! Something for everyone!
How would you describe campus safety? Do you feel safe on campus?
We a have 24-7 Safe ride service if you feel nervous about walking anywhere
On campus police
Well lit sidewalks
emergency light polls and phones every 30 yards or so
