The College at Brockport is a home away from home. The campus is very diverse and has a lot going on so you'll never be bored. There is a lot of Brockport pride no one could be prouder of this college then the students here.
Do you have any tips for prospective students?
Get involved on campus! You'll have many adventure and networking opportunities along the way.
Do you find there’s enough academic rigor at your school?
Well college has to be tough in order to prepare you for life on your own. I can honestly say that The College at Brockport challenges you academically. We have great teachers that work you really hard but that's what's expected out of a college education. There's even an amazing program known as Delta College that tries to get students ahead of the game. You will be exposed to internship opportunities and improve career skills all as a freshman and this is just a 3-year program. In this program they don't want you to wait until you graduate to think about getting a career. You're career starts as soon as you set foot on campus. Depending on your major you can graduate in 3 years too because this program covers most of the general education requirements.
Describe the dorm life at your college.
Dorm life is great. The Resident Assistants (RAs) and Resident Directors (RDs) are there to oversee you but they aren't your parents. They are fun to be around too. The RAs host events in the building in order for everyone to have fun and get to know each other. The atmosphere is great because everyone is friendly. Whenever you walk out of your room there is always a new friend to be made in the hall. Most of my friends were made in my dorm and I practically knew my whole floor.
Describe the food and dining at your college.
Well we aren't ranked one of the top SUNY schools for campus food for nothing. It's buffet style, too. What more could to ask for?
What’s there to do for fun at your college?
Brockport Student Government (BSG) and the some clubs host events all the time at Brockport so you can go to events like carnivals, balls, or even see a drag show on campus. There's also Main Street where we have pizzerias that have pizza slice the size of your torso and an amazing candy store with chocolate in the shape of anything. My friends got me a miniature piano made out of chocolate from that store. The Erie canal is near campus so you can walk along it anytime you want. There are also shuttles that go to malls in Buffalo or Rochester. Rochester is also the hot spot for places to go for amusement as well.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus
Well we have this thing in the middle of campus called The Mall. When I heard about it I thought it was an actual mall but I was wrong. It's actually a big square in the center of campus where a lot goes on. A fraternity or sorority held an event where you had to pay $1 to smash a car they provided. Most events here involve FREE STUFF. There was a free hot dog day, an ice cream truck pulled up and gave out free ice cream, a food truck pulled up and gave more free food, and I can't forget the free T-shirts. This college is always giving.
Are you involved in any clubs or activities?
There are a wide range of clubs (over 100) at The College at Brockport. They range from fine art clubs to sports to service to academic and much more.
How would you describe campus safety? Do you feel safe on campus?
It's great. There are campus escorts who are the University Police walking you to another destination if you don't feel save. We have Safe Ride where students can be picked up on campus to go somewhere else near campus if you don't feel safe. There is also the Blue Light System which is all over campus. All you have to do is press a red button and the University Police will be there for you.
