Do you feel you’re learning a lot?

As a college freshman I anticipated the work load to be different than that of high school. It was. But it also was doable. I liked the fact that the class I was in wasnt too big. I felt that whenever i raised my hand i would be heard. I learned a lot during this semester even without knowing i did. The teaching method was great. We not only used group discussion so that all of our voices could be heard, but we also watched a lot of films so that the teacher wasn't lecturing AT US all the time. It was a great combination and teaching method which allowed me to learn in a comfortable environment

Do you enjoy the experience at your school?

This is/was my first semester returning to college after having my first child. I am 21 and have many things going on in my life right now. The teachers here are really accommodating and have helped me successfully complete this semester. Many students that I've spoken to say that they have been helped out by their teachers when life's problems seem to jump out of no where. I do however need to make more friends or get to know a few of my class mates. I plan on doing this by joining groups and organizations. That should help my experience along.

Do you feel you’re getting value for the money you’re spending on college?

This community college is very affordable. I only took two classes this semester however i paid NOTHING out of pocket. If you are in enough financial need, there is no way you wont be able to attend college. Financial aid combined with my EFC and the BOG waiver, i had even enough money for a refund! which is just what i needed to purchase my books :)

Do you have any tips for prospective students?

If you are considering attending SRJC i highly suggest enrolling in Counseling 270 during the summer so that your registration priority goes up in the fall. Due to the enormous over flow of students there are more trying to attend than there is space available so it is very important to do anything that would move you up on the priority list for registration. Taking that 4day summer class moves you up one position. Then during your first semester see a counselor regularly and they will know you are a serious student who needs top priority when picking classes. Good luck!

Which types of students will excel at your college?

Great for single moms, young moms, returning to school after time off, working students, immigrant students, AB540 (undocumented) students, first time college students, undeclared/undecided students
