A Freshman's Impression's Review

Review of NYU Tandon School of Engineering

Do you feel you’re learning a lot?

The material provided at NYU-Poly is abundant, and given to you in masses, depending on what subject you are referring to and the professor you are learning under. Math, at least Calculus, will go fast and you are expected to have already mastered Trigonometry. However, certain major courses are beginner friendly. The courses require you to pick up the information on the spot or spend time outside to learn it. As a freshman, you will most likely have to take part in the Engineering courses unless you are a Digital Media major. Expect to write long lab reports, give presentations, and build specialized robot for that one course only!

Do you enjoy the experience at your school?

The student population, as a majority, is pleasant but expect to see conceited or ego-inflated nerds. The tutoring services are great if the tutors understand what they're explaining, but majority of the tutors are there to earn money. They are still students and will not want to do anything excessive or requires too much effort. The writing center is highly beneficial though.

Do you feel you’re getting value for the money you’re spending on college?

NYU-Poly gives you a lot of financial aid: Scholarship for Women, Promise Scholarship, Poly-Grant, Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized Loans, and even other scholarship opportunities from services around the school. However, the school tuition and the textbooks are still expensive. It is also difficult to get a job position even when you have work-study because the upperclassmen have higher priority and more experience.

Do you have any tips for prospective students?

Study hard, otherwise you'll fall. If you hold several jobs
