Review of North Arkansas College

from Harrison, AR

Describe your college in three sentences.

One of the most welcoming schools I've ever visited. The teachers and staff want you to succeed and will go out of their way to help you when you ask them. Northark isn't a breeze, but it's definitely a cost-effective and enjoyable place to go learn and grow as an individual.

Do you have any tips for prospective students?

Don't ever be afraid to ask for help! Almost all of the teachers here will help you with your work when you ask politely. Also, be sure to take some fun classes every now and then as electives, you will thoroughly enjoy them! I'm taking Photography and I love it!

Do you find there’s enough academic rigor at your school?

The workload is average here, but this college isn't a breeze. You have to do your work - it is college, after all. The classes aren't necessarily difficult, but they're not all super easy either. Like all colleges, some professors make the classwork more rigorous than others. You just have to be careful to not pile too many of those classes together in one semester.

Describe the dorm life at your college.

No dorms here!! It's a 2 year college, so your dorm is wherever you live: home, apartment, whatever.

Describe the food and dining at your college.

We have the Grill, and the food is pretty good. I've only gotten their fries and chicken strips (which were both really good), but I've heard their salads and wraps are awesome. There are vending machines all over campus, and there's a Dairy Queen right next to the college where many of us go eat every once in awhile. Harrison has tons of restaurants, so there's always somewhere to go eat.

What’s there to do for fun at your college?

Well Harrison is kind of boring. The college has events sometimes like sports events of course, during the summer we had an outside movie night at our amphitheater, there's several clubs like the agri club and narrative club, but I can't think of anything else. Harrison is only 40 minutes away from Branson, Missouri and only an hour and a half away from Fayetteville, AR (Go Hogs!) and Springfield, Missouri.

Do you feel you’re getting value for the money you’re spending on college?

Northark is definitely a good choice for when you get out of high school. Instead of going to a 4 year university when I graduated, I knew I could save a ton of money going here for 2 years then transferring. Northark's tuition and fees are so affordable it's unbelievable. If you qualify for grants or scholarships, you go here for free practically. I have and I can't imagine already having debt to pay back after these 2 years. So if you're looking for a place to save money and get an education Northark is the place you want to go!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

I can't think of anything unusual, but also I'm the type of student who comes to class, goes to the library sometimes to do work, then goes home. But I haven't heard or seen anything unusual here.

Which types of students will excel at your college?

Students who are wanting to save money but still get a good education. Nursing students (we have an amazing nursing program), and just anyone who wants to get a small-school experience before they finally move on to a university or who just want an associate's degree. (We also have some online 4 year degrees)

Are you involved in any clubs or activities?

Agri Club, Student Government, Narrative Club, Phi Theta Kappa, Chi Alpha, sports events, and many fundraising events for charities.

Are you involved in any clubs or activities?

None of that here.

How would you describe campus safety? Do you feel safe on campus?

Nothing bad ever happens here. I'm sure there's been a few reports of things like stealing, break-ins, and stuff that dumb people do sometimes, but no one has ever been murdered, kidnapped, or anything like that here. It's a safe campus, trust me!
