Review of New Mexico Highlands University

from Albuquerque, NM

Describe your college in three sentences.

I love the atmosphere here at Highlands. Yes, it is a small school and a small town, but that is how I like it. I would rather be able to have my professors actually know who I am, rather than just have me as a number in their system.

Do you have any tips for prospective students?

If you need to be in a big city, and be around a lot of people all the time, this school is not for you. You have to learn to love the atmosphere here at Highlands. I know Albuquerque is not that big of a town, but it is way bigger than Las Vegas. Once I got over the fact of the town being so small, I fell in love.

Do you find there’s enough academic rigor at your school?

The academic side of the school is not hard. It challenges you, but it is not impossible. I believe it has a lot to do with the professors. They are very willing to help you and are available to help you if you do not understand something.

Describe the dorm life at your college.

The dorm life is a great way to meet new people. There are so many activities within the dorms that you are always meeting new people. I had to move dorms because of a medical condition, and housing moved me without a problem, which was fantastic,

Describe the food and dining at your college.

This semester we only have the cafeteria because they closed the cantina. The cantina was good if you wanted something other than the normal cafeteria food. The Cafeteria is not the best food i have had, but is definitely not the worst.

What’s there to do for fun at your college?

In a small town you have to find a way to entertain yourself. My friends and I go hiking in the mountain, there are Hot Springs we go to from time to time, and it is nice that the school shows a movie every other week or so because there is only one movie theatre which only shows one movie.
