Charlie's Review

Review of Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary

from Lake of the Ozarks, MO

In which ways do you feel you are learning and growing?

I am growing most in my character. Particularly in Christlikeness and genuine spirituality. MBTS and Spurgeon College is a place where the Spirit is moving among staff and students. As such it is a place where you will grow in you walk with Christ.

How are you enjoying your time at this college?

I am enjoying getting to know and make good friends with some great Christian people. I am enjoying sitting under wise and godly professors. I am enjoying the close community feel.

What tips can you share with prospective students?

Find a church in the area. There are lots of good ones near by. Visit a handful before settling in and ask students and professors for suggestions. Many of the profs are also pastors so if you have a godly prof that you would be glad to be you pastor, visit his church.

What qualities do you have that have best prepared you for success at this institution?

Being able to meet new people. Don’t let yourself be alone or shy, get to know people you won’t regret it. Be accountable and vulnerable with a few trusted friends and encourage each other in your walks.

In what ways do you feel this college challenges students academically?

It challenges you to really live out and apply what you learn. The learning is for you and your character and your spiritual growth not just for its own sake.

How would you describe the dorm life at this school?

Nice newly renovated dorms. Lots of folks form Bible studies. Also there will always be opportunities to watch movies and sports with others—especially Chiefs games!

How would you describe the food and dining options?

Good food. A bit pricey seeing that when you’re in the dorms you have to buy the full meal plan. Lots of fast food within walking distance—Panda Express, Wendy’s, etc.

In your experience, what is there to do for fun at this college?

Lots of student life events. The gym and recreation room. Intermural sports. Playing a sport. Hanging out with folks. Doing things in the city. Group evangelism. My personal favorite: exploring the woods on the 200 acre campus.

In what clubs or organiziations have you participated and how have they impacted your overall experience?

Ratio Christi is an apologetics and evangelism club. You learn helpful truths there about the faith and engaging others.

Are there any quirky or unique traditions that make your college special?

We have a staff vs students wiffle ball game every year. I’ve only been here 1 year so I don’t know all the traditions yet.

How does this institution support campus safety or mental health and wellness programs?

There is free biblical counseling available to all students.

How has your college supported your career development and future goals?

I have developed in character and, going into the ministry particularly, this is the most important thing.
