Macon state (now Middle Georgia State College) has rigorous biology courses with fantastic professors. The financial aid services are slow and hard to deal with. Beautiful campuses all over middle Georgia and it is growing into a university.
Do you have any tips for prospective students?
Deal with your financial aid way ahead of time. If possible, make payments online to avoid going to the offices. Do not take the courses lightly. Macon State has very rigorous courses and I believe it should be recognized as being a difficult college. It is a reasonably priced college but it is difficult.
Do you find there’s enough academic rigor at your school?
The biology program and the nursing program are very rigorous. As for other majors, I have not heard anything about them. I do know the courses I took in sociology, foreign language and psychology were absolutely no joke. STUDY!
Describe the dorm life at your college.
I lived in the dorms for one semester on the Macon campus. The only downfall was I had to sign in each and every guest. It felt more like a prison than a home. The dorms were nice though. Each person had their own room and own bathroom. The pool is fantastic and there are group events every so often for the students.
Describe the food and dining at your college.
The dining options are growing. A Subway was recently built on the Macon campus. The cafeteria has surprisingly delicious food and there are cafes around campus that serve hot food and Starbucks coffee.
What’s there to do for fun at your college?
There are always activities being planned for the school. The Macon area also has many opportunities for shopping, movies, dinner and other activities.
Do you feel you’re getting value for the money you’re spending on college?
You cannot beat the tuition! Fifteen hours for under two-thousand dollars. It is a very reasonably priced college.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus
Each year there is the Cherry Blossom Festival. Tunes and Balloons is hosted on Macon campus.
Which types of students will excel at your college?
All. There is a great diversity at the school. It is mostly a commuter school. It offers online courses and is good for taking night courses while working.
Are you involved in any clubs or activities?
I am president of the Natural Science Network (a science based organization) and we are involved with many other clubs and activities on and off campus. There is a club for everyone!
How would you describe campus safety? Do you feel safe on campus?
The campus is patrolled all the time and call boxes are throughout the campus, even the parking lots. It is very safe and I cannot recall a time I ever felt unsafe.
