Joshua's Review

Review of Johnson University

from Lakewood, CO

Describe your college in three sentences.

Very good school of high quality. Easy to get into, however they have many rules to follow. I truly enjoy this school.

Do you have any tips for prospective students?

This is a school focused around the Bible; if you don't know much about Scripture, read some. Use the time at Johnson to grow you as a person, not to become who God is promised you'll become later. Ministry is so simple, don't let the classroom kill what you think of as ministry.

Do you find there’s enough academic rigor at your school?

Good standard for students to live by. They want you to do all things as for Christ, so if you're lazy and immature in your scheduling and school-work, don't go to Johnson.

Describe the dorm life at your college.

You truly build a brotherhood with the people in the dorms. There's an open door policy which helps you get to know everyone very well. You have your own private bathroom!

Describe the food and dining at your college.

You have two options: the Gally (main dining hall) or The River Grill (campus restaurant). It gets old quick, but it's fairly good quality for mass produced college food. Other restaurants are about 10-15 minutes drive away.

What’s there to do for fun at your college?

The campus is incredibly small with little to do compared to a large state school. Downtown Knoxville is about a 20-25 minute drive away, so many people go there, many people play video games, so you play with each other a lot. There is also intramural sports as well as many pick up games.

Do you feel you’re getting value for the money you’re spending on college?

Incredible CHRISTIAN education for very cheap. Private university education for just around 17k (as of 2013), and everyone is an automatic double major (Bible and whatever specific you chose).

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

It's really small, so there are not really and unusual traditions or locations. There is the grave site of the founders.

Which types of students will excel at your college?

Willing to be grown in what you believe and have an open mind to MANY different ways of thinking. Those interesting in theology and religion.

Are you involved in any clubs or activities?

We have Greek class for learning Biblical-Greek as a language, but that's it.

How would you describe campus safety? Do you feel safe on campus?

There is a few security guards that drive around campus, two gates, and very nice people.
