Do you find there’s enough academic rigor at your school?
Almost all of the teachers are wonderful! Most teachers design the class to allow you to learn, instead of worry about the grades. I thought college was going to be just sit in a classroom and listen to the lectures, but GCSU has small class sizes so you can be comfortable having a conversation with your teacher and classmates.
Do you enjoy the experience at your school?
Not only is everyone extremely intellectual and friendly here, Southern courtesy prevails. This may be a little irrelevant, but if you're going into a building or classroom doors are held. Everyone is polite and respects each other so much.
There's something here for everyone! With all the friends you meet being on such a small campus you can't help but to run into people everywhere you go, including night-life. We like to say, Everyone's famous in Milly!
Do you feel you’re getting value for the money you’re spending on college?
If you have HOPE scholarship, anything will be a bang for your 90-100% free tuition, but GCSU especially. With HOPE, pretty much the only thing you pay for is housing and freshmen MUST live in dorms, which is great! Living in the dorms freshmen year is the best because you get to know everyone on your hall, in your building, and a ton of people in the other dorms too!
The classes are wonderful since most of them are pretty small (30 people or so unless it's biology) so you really feel like a person, not just a desk. Because there's not 400 people waiting for the next note to write down, you do not feel like you're wasting everyone's time asking questions or taking the class on a tangent.
There are also so many facilities to help you get the best grades you possibly can. All of the faculty is helpful and willing to work with you if you're willing to work with them. Never feel afraid when taking a test to say to your teacher I just don't know the answer to this question, what can you do to help me on it?. They will work with you the best they can to get you to the answer!
Do you have any tips for prospective students?
My Number One tip for prospective students, especially at GCSU, try EVERYTHING! GCSU is really big on students getting involved and they make it so very easy. Getting involved not only looks better to your teachers and the other staff around you, it also may help you while applying for a major. Most importantly, getting involved makes making friends and getting to know the school extremely easy!
Which types of students will excel at your college?
Friendly, interested in learning, interested in being social, experimental, art lovers, music lovers, active, hermits, hard workers, Everyone!
