Review of Georgia College & State University

Describe your college in three sentences.

Georgia College is the place you go if you truly care about your education. The teachers challenge you academically, your class sizes are small, and you never are going to have one of those classes where you don't have to try and still get an A. That being said, when you do receive an A, you truly know that you've earned it.

Do you have any tips for prospective students?

The campus is beautiful and the night life can distract you, but from day one of classes you need to stay on top of your course work. It really is all in the syllabus, and as long as you stay ahead of your work the years ahead won't be nearly as hard as you're expecting them to be.

Do you find there’s enough academic rigor at your school?

For my core classes, which I expected to be easy classes to get out of the way before my major's classes, I was shocked at the work load. There is so much each week that has to be done and most of it is online, on your own. So if you don't remember that week to do something, your teacher won't feel bad for you. I can't repeat this enough: stay on top of your classwork!

Describe the dorm life at your college.

I don't live in the technical dorms, I live in the village on West Campus which is apartments that are still owned by the school. If you need your own private space, this is the place you need to go. I have my own bedroom and only share a bathroom with one person. We can cook with our oven and we have a living area and kitchen appliances- the whole works. Also, we have free laundry and free maintenance calls.

Describe the food and dining at your college.

The food AROUND Georgia College is great. Theres plenty of restaurants right off campus that take your bobcat card and are quick. But the Max isn't the best. The more I eat there the less I want to come back. The food is repetitive and half of the time not all of the stations are open because you aren't coming in the proper hours for Lunch and Dinner time, but if you go during those times you have to wait in incredibly long lines.

What’s there to do for fun at your college?

There's the greenway ( a park by the river), bowling, plenty of places to eat, theres a lot of geocaching if you're into that. Theres a huge national park less than 20 minutes away, and theres also two major lakes here that are great for kayaking and fishing during the fall and spring. Also there is plenty of night life activity like Capital and Chops, which are bars that are basically dance clubs.

Do you feel you’re getting value for the money you’re spending on college?

It is a little pricey to go here, I'll admit. But with small classes and professors who actually care about you, its worth it.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Do NOT step on the bobcat head on front campus. Its like UGA's arch, if you step on it you won't graduate on time or you'll drop out. Don't. do. it.

Are you involved in any clubs or activities?

I'm in emerging leaders and its a great club to be in as a freshman because of how many people you meet right off the bat. Also, one of my friends is in a club where all they do is sell plants for fundraisers and its so much fun going to buy some from her for a great cause. There are over 120 different clubs, and there will definitely be something for everyone here.

How would you describe campus safety? Do you feel safe on campus?

There are at the least three different main police stations in Milledgeville. Theres the campus police, then the Baldwin county police, and then theres a state troopers location here as well. We are super safe.
