Review of Georgia College & State University

from Suwanee, GA

Describe your college in three sentences.

Georgia College is one of the top universities in the state. There is a strong drive for academic achievement, and assistance in all classes is offered all the time. There are always fun activities being offered to keep the weekends busy and entertaining.

Do you have any tips for prospective students?

Get involved with whatever interests you. Many students sign up for everything, and then slowly get involved in a couple that really speak to them. The few who don't sign up for any clubs or activities can feel left out quickly, because everyone else is busy with new friends and activities. Everyone is new, so feel comfortable to join anything that sparks your interest. Go to the Learning Center in the library whenever you need help. They are there and free to help you, so take advantage of this great system.

Do you find there’s enough academic rigor at your school?

The teachers have high expectations, but still at a reasonable level of success. The nursing program is difficult, but if a student succeeds, they are very intelligent in their field. The challenging classes have tutoring sessions available frequently through the week.

Describe the dorm life at your college.

Dorm life is a blast. Most of the rooms are a great size, and sharing a bathroom is easy and simple, and close, much better than busy community bathrooms. The Community Advisors plan events during the week and on weekend nights, including food, fun, and games. The dorms have study rooms nearby that are convenient for study and escaping the room for a breather. Kitchens are easily accessible in the dorms, which is great to make snacks or a quick meal for yourself.

Describe the food and dining at your college.

Food is about average, there is always pizza, salad, sandwiches, ice cream and other treats available. The stir fry line always has good food, and the hot meals are average. Breakfast has lots of choices with eggs, bacon, bagels, and cereal.

What’s there to do for fun at your college?

Front Campus is wide and spacious, always full of Frisbees and people walking their dogs. Evenings can be spent downtown visiting restaurants. There is a park nearby and a river. This is a great place to go tubing, or walk on trails, or play games at parks. The Wellness Center has a rock climbing wall, pool, and basketball courts where many games can be played. Intramural sports are popular opportunities to have fun, whether you are playing or cheering on friends. Thursday nights have Improve shows which are run by GC students and are hilarious every week.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Fall Festival is a great weekend where families and friends go downtown to listen to live music and participate in carnival activities and eat good food. On Halloween the theatre preforms a play that many students dress up and attend for a fun night out. The Den in a place where students can hangout, play pool, get unlimited soda, or relax in front of a tv in a massage chair.

Which types of students will excel at your college?

This school is great for students who are looking for a great time with the small town feel. Relationships are built quickly and with ease. You'll see a friend every time you walk around campus, and can meet new people everyday.

Are you involved in any clubs or activities?

There is an abundance of clubs and activities offered. There are lots of Christian organizations open and welcoming. Other religious or non religious group also exist. There are literary, scientific, and language based clubs. Fun activities range from intramural sports, chorus, and theater groups. These are fun to join, but also a blast to watch when they are ready to preform.

Are you involved in any clubs or activities?

Many sororities and fraternities are offered. There are lots of events and socials, so if you enjoy parties, making friends, and don't mind the time commitment, it can be lots of fun.

How would you describe campus safety? Do you feel safe on campus?

Safety is highly encouraged on campus. Alarm buttons are in every room in case of an emergency. Blue lights dot the street corners, also an emergency button that can be pressed in dire circumstances. Golf carts drive around on weekend nights to pick people up if they feel unsafe traveling home after a night out.
