Review of Farmingdale State College

from Farmingdale, NY

Describe your college in three sentences.

Farmingdale has become a renown SUNY institution- coming here was a last minute decision, but one of the best decisions I've made for my future. Farmingdale is doing an exceptional job at readying me for the future in my hopes of being a psychiatrist. Between the small class sizes to interact at a personal level with my professors, the great opportunities on campus to get involved and make your mark and to start new traditions and just learning about the real world has made Farmingdale a great place for me to continue my education and to ready me to go even further.

Do you have any tips for prospective students?

Keep your options open, but definitely consider choosing Farmingdale. Work hard in your senior year, take AP courses and CLEPs if your school offers. The institution is becoming more and more selective every year, especially for our popular majors i.e.: nursing, psychology, bioscience, business management and computer science.

Do you find there’s enough academic rigor at your school?

It's college, it's supposed to be challenging and nothing will be hand delivered to you. Farmingdale has definitely shown me great challenges especially in the sciences, mathematics and surprisingly, the humanities. Designate a day to study each of your classes you chose to take for the term, relax, give yourself time to decompose from coursework. The Greenley Hall library and student success center is a great resource to get together with classmates and form study groups and to even receive on-site tutoring in almost every area the College offers! Describe the dorm life at your college.

I do not dorm

Describe the food and dining at your college.

We offer newly modern and updated dining for the students at Farmingdale. Between casual style burger and fries to Starbucks, chipotle style dining, there is a great variety of meals to dine on here!

What’s there to do for fun at your college?

While Farmingdale is predominately a commuter school, there is definitely a lot to do and to take advantage of. While Farmingdale is conveniently located on the Nassau/Suffolk border, only forty five minutes away from Manhattan by bus or train, the trip-county area has a lot to offer. You have Adventureland theme park, so many restaurants and shopping centers, not to mention the beach is right down the road! (On every side of the island). Get involved on campus, join a club, heck even start a club!

Do you feel you’re getting value for the money you’re spending on college?

While I am here on a scholarship, Farmingdale's cheap in-state tuition is definitely worth the price. I know for the three years I've been here so far I've gotten what I would expect out of a college experience.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The Eclipse in the Middle of the Campus. The structure has been there for years and is a great area to get a selfie with the campus buildings or the scenic acreage surrounding!

Which types of students will excel at your college?

Farmingdale is suitable for any student, as long as you are serious about your major, completing your coursework and working well with others. If you have a disability the school does offer services to accommodate!

Are you involved in any clubs or activities?

There are countless student run clubs and activities. Whether it's honor societies, computer science clubs, pre-health advisement, psychology club, community service clubs and greek life, there's something for everyone at SUNY Farmingdale.

Are you involved in any clubs or activities?

Not involved in Greek life

How would you describe campus safety? Do you feel safe on campus?

Farmingdale has nationally acclaimed high safety ratings. There are NYS police officers always on duty patrolling the campus, and they're always willing to assist should a problem arise!
