Review of El Paso Community College

from El Paso, TX

Describe your college in three sentences.

El Paso Community College is the best place to start. It is a great place to start if you are a student who does not qualify for financial aid. It offers many different associates degrees, and you can obtain it in two years or less.

Do you have any tips for prospective students?

If you are thinking of attending college in the future El Paso Community College would be a place where you might want to start. It has more than three different locations, and it provide classes with a small amount of students. This is in advantage to have 1-to-1 student-teacher time. This is the place where you can get all the basics out of the way, and transfer the hours to the University of your choice. Also the price of tuition is much smaller than that of a University.

Do you find there’s enough academic rigor at your school?

The academic rigor of this institution is at a reasonable level. Most of the teachers understand there are responsibilities outside of school and work with you on due-dates of assignments. There are also teachers that challenge their students and expect for them to put 100 % to the class. It is challenging but not impossible.

Describe the dorm life at your college.

They do not offer dormitories since it’s a community college and have more than 3 locations available throughout the city of El Paso. This means you can stay home, and have no need to pay a dorm.

Describe the food and dining at your college.

Every location has a cafeteria inside, and each of them offers different types of food. Some have subway, Mexican food, even coffee shops. It’s not the greatest food but there are many restaurants available outside of the college that are very close.

What’s there to do for fun at your college?

There are many different clubs to join. There is the SGA which stands for Student Government Association, for those who are interested in laws. There is the Cross-Country club, and many more sports to join for those who are athletes. They have a lot of events that go on throughout the semester. You can check-it out at their home page www.epcc.edu

Do you feel you’re getting value for the money you’re spending on college?

Much cheaper than a University, if you are a student who does not get any financial help this is the best option for you. Get your basics out of the way as fast as you can, and at an affordable price. In no time you can obtain a Certification or Associates degree and transfer the hours completed to the University of your choice! Also the parking sticker is 25 dollars for one year, that is very affordable.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Some traditions the College has are free food for students on special holidays. Also some vendors come to the college, set-up and sell many different things. They sell Mexican candy, jewelry, and many other things. The blood donations also set up every semester in all the campuses and promote blood donations. (Teachers tend to give extra-credit points to those who donate)

Which types of students will excel at your college?

Once again it is great for those students who are not eligible for financial aid, and have to pay full price for the tuition. It offers payment plans and classes are very affordable. It is also great for those who want to get the basics out of the way as fast as they can, and not have too much pressure from teachers. Most of the teachers in this College are very flexible with the students and very understanding.

Are you involved in any clubs or activities?

There are many clubs and activities going on during the semesters. They have the Honors Program, SGA (Student Government Association), Phi Theta Kappa club and many activities. Some activities promote physical health, like ‘Race for the Cure,’ and some are to help the least fortunate like food donations. Other activities are for students, for example Art Festivals and Art exhibitions. These are competition among students; the winner either gets money, a lap tops, an iPad etc.

How would you describe campus safety? Do you feel safe on campus?

The College has its own police department which is always rounding around the college parking and buildings. In the years that I have attended this college I have not had any problems regarding this. I feel safe, even when I take night classes.
