Gwendolyn's Review

Review of DePaul University

from Chelsea, MI

Do you feel you’re learning a lot?

I have found DePaul to be just challenging enough, but not so difficult I barely have time to sleep. What I really love about DePaul is that it seems as if there is enough down time to spend hours at the library, get all of your work done, and still have time to hang out with friends. The honors program is also a really good way to add a little bit more of a challenge to your education.

Do you enjoy the experience at your school?

I wouldn't want to be anywhere else for college. Chicago is an amazing place to live, and DePaul really incorporates the city well, using it as an effective learning tool. Aside from Chicago, DePaul is in an AWESOME neighborhood, with plenty to do, no matter what you're into, and a gorgeous setting.

Do you feel you’re getting value for the money you’re spending on college?

DePaul is expensive. But don't let that stop you from applying! They tend to be very generous with scholarships for students who challenge themselves and have worked hard in high school. DePaul also offers a lot of financial aid for students in need. The ticket price of DePaul is often much higher than what you end up paying.

Do you have any tips for prospective students?

Apply as early as possible, for everything! DePaul bases their academic scholarships on a first come, first serve basis. Also, if you make your decision early, applying for housing early gives you your best chance at getting the dorm you want, since there is limited housing for students. Apply for financial aid (FAFSA) as early as you can too, because DePaul may give out additional financial aid, even if you do not qualify for federal aid.

Which types of students will excel at your college?

Independent, confident, outgoing students who are looking for a non-traditional college experience. DePaul doesn't offer the typical frat party, tailgating college life that many state schools do, but that can get old quickly. What doesn't get old is living in a fantastic, exciting city with so many different opportunities. DePaul is far from typical, however the experiences that you have are so much more unique than any other school.
