I'm a new student at Columbia Basin College. I am learning a lot. There are many different programs at CBC. I’m leaning toward the internet specialist degree in the computer science program.
Do you enjoy the experience at your school?
I have been very happy so far. It is a small school. Because it is smaller than a university, I think it helps the transition into college life. The teachers I’ve had so far have been welcoming and helpful.
Do you feel you’re getting value for the money you’re spending on college?
Admission was not expensive. There was a $29 application fee. Then you have to take a placement test called the COMPASS test, which has a $50 fee. The cost of attending CBC is more affordable than a university. It costs around $1000 per quarter, depending on how many credits you take. I am able to drive there from home and not have to pay additional housing costs.
Do you have any tips for prospective students?
You can register and pay for your classes online. You can even order your books from the bookstore online and they’ll hold them for you. After you sign up for classes, you have to take an FYI class before you begin. It’s a three hour class, three days in a row. You learn about educational planning, take a campus tour, and learn how to use ANGEL, which is an online program used to communicate with your teachers and check your grades.
Which types of students will excel at your college?
CBC is great for people wanting to save money, people with not perfect academic records, and people wanting to ease into college life.
