The Hilo Chinese School was formed in 1930 to teach Chinese language. After the school closed, a charitable trust was established to provide financial support to the descendants of the school's original students and students of Chinese ancestry. Preference given first to descendants of Hilo Chinese School alumni and second to support students of Chinese ancestry.
