Dr. Connie Curran Memorial Scholarship
Empower Scholarship Fund
Dr. Connie Curran started out as a nurse before moving into consulting and executive positions during a career focused on health care and education. Connie was such a strong voice for nursing and committed to expanding quality nursing programs and giving students the opportunity to enter her beloved profession.
Born and raised in Berlin, Wis., Ms. Curran often said she was inspired to become a nurse after a tornado hit her hometown in 1956 and she saw women in crisp white nursing uniforms driving Red Cross trucks and aiding townspeople. At 17, Ms. Curran entered nursing school at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. In 2010, Dr. Curran started Best on Board, a firm aimed at equipping health care trustees with tools and ultimately bringing more nurses, minorities and other underrepresented groups onto health care organizations’ boards. Ms. Curran also served on the boards of Adtalem Global Education, DePaul University, IDX Systems, the University of Wisconsin Foundation, Allegiance Corp. and Pyxis.
Dr. Curran died of complications from breast cancer in 2015. She had battled breast cancer for 13 years. Scholarships will be awarded to eligible students enrolled at Chamberlain University.
