Applicants must submit an essay contest of 500 to 800 words on the given prompt. Applicants must be age 17 to 26 during the contest period, a full time student (High School; College; Vocational) or forthcoming full time student (e.g. those taking a "gap year" AND who have been accepted to college or vocational school); and an American Citizen. Judging criteria: Originality, Creativity and Strength of Argument; Acknowledgement of alternative perspectives. Although the prompt hits several social seams, we are clear that political party affiliation, gender, personal politics and frankly any other demographic are immaterial. Essays will be scored "blind", with judges seeing no personal information (name, school, gender, etc.) on the contestant.
