For a university in the city, there's enough grass to roll around on, and if not, Drexel, which has more greenery, is pretty close by! USP, UPenn, and Drexel are the three universities that make up University City, so we all share our resources. University of the Sciences is a great place to study, and center city, which is close by, is a great place to go out and chill when you feel like banging your head against the wall from the workload you're expected to handle, haha, but I love this place.
Do you have any tips for prospective students?
It's in the name - the University of the SCIENCES - if you're not intending to major in something sciencey, don't come here because there's literally nothing by science. I'm planning to major in Pharmacy, which is the most popular major at this university, and it's tough - come sharp and ready to dominate this year! Good luck!
Do you find there’s enough academic rigor at your school?
Coming from a small high school without ever taking any of those fancy AP or IB classes, I struggled throughout the first few weeks when everyone was all chill and was all like I remember all of this from high school! Well, I wasn't one of those people, but I really took advantage of the professors' office hours as well as tutoring services! They were really helpful, and for a pharmacy major, I managed to pull a 3.53 GPA for my first semester of college :)!
Describe the dorm life at your college.
I don't dorm, but I stayed overnight once for orientation, and let's just say the rooms look like tiny jail cells, haha. However, I stayed at the lower ranked dormitory; of course there are better ones, which are more expensive. I'm used to my big room at home and not having to share space, so let's just say that it didn't work out well for me.
Describe the food and dining at your college.
The food is a bit expensive, but the dining hall looks fancy. Since I commute, I usually bring my own food or buy food from the food carts on campus.
What’s there to do for fun at your college?
The gym is fancyyyyyyyyyyy, cardio on the top floor, ping pong and pool on the first floor, and a weight room in the basement. There use to be a pool, but since people barely used it, the university decided to make it into a chill room (I can't wait to see how it turns out!).
Do you feel you’re getting value for the money you’re spending on college?
For roughly $32K a year for undergraduates, I would say that if you really took advantage of the college and actively participate (which I couldn't do as a commuter because everything was at night and I hate taking the subway home when it's pitch dark), it would definitely be worth the price because the equipments that the labs have are top of the line and you can really do a lot here.
Are you involved in any clubs or activities?
Small college = small campus = limited amount of clubs. I personally haven't joined anything because everything is at night, and I don't stay late since I have to take the subway home; and that, my dear, is not fun when 5PM starts to look like 12AM.
How would you describe campus safety? Do you feel safe on campus?
Tons of campus security are always cruising around on their priuses, and they walk all over the place. You can't walk a block and not spot their bright yellow uniform, haha. Plus the cops drive around the campus at night.
