The chefs that I have had so far are amazing. They have had their share of the industry, and are willing to help you out. It may be discouraging when you do something wrong and get yelled for it, but that's when you bounce back and practice. Keep up with the work you do, do not fall behind. If you really want to become a great chef it will take a lot of time outside of the labs for you to do some research. Always be willing to learn, have the attitude everyday that you're going to get better.
Do you enjoy the experience at your school?
Johnson & Wales is what you make of it. If you don't really put yourself out there and become involved, you won't get much. The people there are really chill, the professors and chefs I have had so far push you a lot, which is awesome. Remember, it's what you make of it, be involved!
Do you feel you’re getting value for the money you’re spending on college?
So far, all the Academics and Culinary Labs I've had so far, definitely worth my education. I've learned a lot, met some great people, have had some great chefs so far help me along the way making sure I'm ready. Education doesn't just come from the school, again, you're going to have to do a few things yourself to make sure you're keeping up with homework.
Do you have any tips for prospective students?
Do the culinary shadow, or fashion shadowing, business, etc. They are worth it and a complete joy. I did my culinary shadow and it only made me more excited. JWU is beautiful, Colorado in itself is one of the best states out there, if I do say so myself. Make sure it's right for you. Keep you're head high and keep moving forward!
