Very friendly and close knit-atmosphere. Pleasant campus. Truely caring and passionate professors.
Do you have any tips for prospective students?
if you're looking for a big university, this is not the place for you. Also, keep in mind that it started as a liberal art school, so to graduate you often need a number of classes out side of your major. However, it really gets you good exposure if you're not 100% positive of what you want to do in the future. There is a wide selection of courses to forfill these requirements, so don't worry about being stuck in some dry class you have no interest in-- you get to pick what topic you under the college's categories you want yourself!
Do you find there’s enough academic rigor at your school?
it really depends on you major. some, such as engenering and computer sciences have a huge workload
Describe the dorm life at your college.
Levels of activity depend on which dorm you choose. However, showers are always above your average state school showers. They always have warm water, and I have never heard complaints about mysterious molds and slime. Rooms are fairly spacious and they provide you with a desk, chair, nigh table, towel rack, and dresser in nearly all the dorms. Beds are adjustable in height and mattresses are comfortable. There are study rooms on every floor in the traditional dorm setting, which is very useful and convenient! Heating every once in a while goes on the fritz, but upperclassmen can teach you all the tricks, so it isn't even a bother anymore!
Describe the food and dining at your college.
Some things at dining are absolutely amazing, while others are bland. Still, I have never had anything that made me feel disgusted or sick. You kind of have to learn what is the really good stuff. Look around and you will learn where the good stuff is- pierogies, carrot cake, lemon bars, man and cheese, and ribs are heavenly.
What’s there to do for fun at your college?
Student life is super involved and always seems to be hosting events. There are a surprising number of clubs and extracirricular activities, for a small school. It's extremely rare to find someone not involved in some activity on campus outside of classes.Live prize competitions, improv, cultural events, and movies are also very frequent. It's hard to find a weekend where there isn't an event going on (except during breaks). There is a theater nearby and the town of Elizabethtown is very close and pleasant place to visit with nice antique shops, art galleries, shops, and restaurants. Hershey is also really close by if you have a car.
Do you feel you’re getting value for the money you’re spending on college?
It is expensive, but they do give out a lot of scholarships, many of them cover half of the tuition or more. Scholarships are also easier to keep than at most colleges as well, I believe the minimum GPA to maintain after you recieve an academic scholarship is 2.0. (Most colleges require either 2.75 or 3.0, which is really diffcult to do- some semesters are much harder than others. It also means that the freshman lag in grades before students adjust is not as harsh.)
There are also a lot of included services many students are not aware of. If you take advantage of there opportunities, you really are getting a good value for your education and personal care needs (they offer many counseling and medical services free).
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus
We have a rivalry with Messiah college. For some reason, people throw marshmallows at the messiah players during the first soccer game of the year. It's a little obnoxious, but funny to watch. (People will also throw marshmallows at each other in the stands- this part is much more fun and less obnoxious!)
Also, we have Mr. Etown each spring. This is a sort of male beauty pageant. Guys compete against each other for the title of mr. Etown. It becomes a grand production with guys doing dances, and showcasing talents. It is a really fun night and the whole campus comes out to see it and cheer on their friends in the show.
Which types of students will excel at your college?
Students who are motivated and enjoy anything outside of their major. To get the best out of Etown, be a social person and get to know a lot of people around campus. It is a small school, but because of high academic rigor, people can often make the mistake of keeping to themselves too much and falling behind socially.
Are you involved in any clubs or activities?
There are a lot of fun clubs and activities on campus for almost any interest you can think of. Nearly all clubs are involved in hosting at least one campus wide event per year. However, you sometimes have to look for clubs because if you miss signing up for them in the beginning of the year, it is difficult to join up and fit into routines.
Are you involved in any clubs or activities?
No Greek life. We do have traditional homes for groups of like-minded students to arrange to live together in, but this is far from a sorority or fraternity.
The closest we have to a frat is the palace which is a house which the boys from lacrosse often live in after freshman year. They do host parties, but as far as i know do not exclude other teams or homes from entering.
How would you describe campus safety? Do you feel safe on campus?
Campus security is always patrolling, and there is always at least 1 RA on duty. We also have a mobile safety app. Security is even alright if you just call for an escort if you feel unsafe walking at night in the dark, or something similar. Binge drinking and use of illegal drugs is very rare.
