Review of Cornerstone University

from Atlanta, MI

Do you feel you’re learning a lot?

I have learned a lot, not just academically, but I have also learned a lot about myself. The classes are all Christ-centered, and the professors are not only excellent teachers, but are also great mentors and role-models. The staff and faculty make a genuine effort to be involved in the lives of each student.

Do you enjoy the experience at your school?

I absolutely love being here. Campus life is awesome, and I have really enjoyed getting involved in the activities and student leadership opportunities. The people here are amazing, and are such an encouragement.

Do you feel you’re getting value for the money you’re spending on college?

In spite of the cost, I have to say it is definitely worth it. The effect it will have on your life is priceless, and it is a good investment not only for your education, but also for the difference it will make on the rest of your life. Plus, there are quite a few scholarships and grants available that help considerably with the extra cost.

Do you have any tips for prospective students?

Get out and meet people! During my first semester, I purposely chose to sit with different people each time I ate in the cafeteria, and it was probably one of the best decisions that I made. The people you meet and the conversations you join are so worth it. The funny thing for me was that several people thought I was a sophomore or junior simply because they saw me sitting with other sophomores/juniors during lunch and dinner. I agree with what some of the other reviewers said. It is important to let people know that you welcome their presence. Open your door, get out and participate in section activities and other campus events, and just purposefully establish friendships.

Which types of students will excel at your college?

Pretty much anyone, but especially for those who wish to attend a Christian university and who are serious about academics (if you're not, your just wasting $30,000 a year). CU is not a party school and therefore, if all you want to do is party, then this probably isn't the school for you. We do have a TON of fun and there are plenty of other things to do. CU is in Grand Rapids and is very close to downtown which a lot of people really enjoy exploring. GR is the home of ArtPrize which is a city-wide art display that occurs annually. CU is right across the road from Frederick Meijer Gardens, a sculpture garden and conservatory. The campus is also conveniently placed on a main street and is close to a couple of malls and plenty of major stores.
