Ashley's Review

Review of College of Art and Design at Lesley University

from Boston, MA

Describe your college in three sentences.

The professors are absolutely crème de la crème. Each professor has had their own experiences in the field of art; one of my professors in particular worked on the Lilo & Stitch T.V. series, which I found to be very exciting! They have all given me some sense of refining my own work as an art and have pushed me to be more curious of a scholar.

Do you have any tips for prospective students?

If you're going to apply to this school, you must APPLY yourself in every sense of the word. Every free moment is a good opportunity to get some extra work done however it is important to hold a social life as well. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. There are many clubs that range from animation to sports to social justice, and the list goes on.

Do you find there’s enough academic rigor at your school?

Each and every class has opened my eyes to a different perspective. Foundations Seminar has taught me to question everything in print especially if it's claimed to be fact. Drawing Intensive has taught me that my eyes plays tricks on me when I'm drawing from observation; as a result, I must think of what I'm looking at rather than assuming placements. The list just goes on; my professors have successful made me more thoughtful.

Describe the dorm life at your college.

Personally, I don't live in a dorm. But on a visit, the rooms are very spacious and the beds are comfortable as well. Students that dorm seem closer knit than students that commute.

Describe the food and dining at your college.

The cafeteria always has great fruit and vegetables which, as a vegetarian really appeals to me.

What’s there to do for fun at your college?

The Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University has a great location in Kenmore due to the fact it's several blocks away from Blick's Art Supply Store and, slightly further away, the wonderfully scenic Boston Commons! The Commons is a great place to picnic, relax, and, in our case, sketch and illustrate. As a sister school of Lesley, students have to attend the Cambridge which isn't far from Harvard Square. There are many places to dine, like Bertucci's, and for the curious minds, there are several books stores.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

One time a year, Lesley students will paint themselves from head to toe and run across Harvard campus. In my opinion, that seems like a waste of paint.

Which types of students will excel at your college?

This school is great for students that aren't very competition and are excessively liberal.

Are you involved in any clubs or activities?

The school holds no fraternities nor sororities.

How would you describe campus safety? Do you feel safe on campus?

Entrances can only be opened with IDs and security guards are extremely stiff about letting in students without IDs.
