Centrea's Review

Review of Clemson University

from Florence, SC

How are you enjoying your time at this college?

I am! The work is definitely challenging, but that is to be expected when going to college. There are plenty of opportunities to have fun on campus as well. There are many events held, which are free, by the school, and other organizations and clubs on campus which are open to everyone.

What tips can you share with prospective students?

GO TO TUTORING!!!! Coming into college, I was skeptical about getting help because I was ashamed of needing it. However, going to tutoring and group review sessions, I was able to do well in my classes, and finish the year with a 3.0 as a freshman in a challenging STEM major.

What qualities do you have that have best prepared you for success at this institution?

Learning to not self-doubt when I would get a bad grade was one of the qualities I had to learn to have. Getting into college alone is a huge accomplishment, and not getting the best grades all the time doesn't mean you are dumb. You deserve your place in your college just as much as the next person. The next major skill I had that is crucial to have as a college student is time management. Yes, you are given due dates for most assignments, but it is not like high school where you will be reminded about it every day. It is up to you as an adult to now take the initiative to get your work done in a timely manner.

In what ways do you feel this college challenges students academically?

Everything that has been learned in high school has been amplified times ten. Everything is more in depth, and it calls for way more critical thinking skills and applying the topics to your day-to-day life.

How would you describe the dorm life at this school?

Living in a dorm has been an experience to say the least. I have always had a small room that I've had to share with a sibling, so living in such a small space was not that bad for me personally. There were also communal bathrooms, which took a lot of getting used to.

How would you describe the food and dining options?

The food is decent in some dining halls and mediocre in others. The best dining hall out of the three we have is Douthit, but you are allowed only one meal swipe at lunch, and one at dinner. The other two dining halls, CORE (McAllister dining hall) and Schlieter are mediocre. At times the food is really good, but for the most part it's nothing crazy.

In your experience, what is there to do for fun at this college?

There are many events held, which are free, by the school, and other organizations and clubs on campus which are open to everyone. We also have a man-made beach called Y Beach that people really enjoy going to. You can rent our canoes, paddleboard, etc. Most students, however, just come out to do work under the deck where there are hammocks and comfy seating.
