Review of Alabama Southern Community College

from Beatrice, AL

Do you feel you’re learning a lot?

about credits, GPA, and other so called important aspects of college life. A GPA is not calculated the way a high school's GPA is calculated. Every class is very important and it is criticalley important that you get the best grade possible, especially in classes that are worth four credit hours. Earn a C or less in those type of classes and your GPA can fall a considerably great amount. The most important thing that I have learned since entering college is how to manage my time and the amount of classes I take a week. Try not to overload or it could became a pain, especially if you have a job or some other activity to do.

Do you enjoy the experience at your school?

because the size of every class is very similar to that of high school. The teachers are able to focus in on certain students who may need more help and they are able to learn the names of the students. The most important reason why I enjoy being here is because it gives me the opoortunity to get some of my tougher classes out the way before transfering to a public college and taking a class with a professor who I do not understand because of his language or lack their of.

Do you feel you’re getting value for the money you’re spending on college?

because it is important that you take every opportunity available to get money from the college you are entering. In this school, you have a few opportunities to recieve some type of financial aid. Such as their Expose' and, or course, their baseball and basketball programs. They also have art and journalism scholarships.

Do you have any tips for prospective students?

Make sure you have applied for every scholarship and grant that is available. If you are not sure of what to apply for, then ask the financial aid expert. They are great at helping you apply for as much money as poosible so that you want have to come out of your pockets. Importantly, if you are not a morning person or vice/versa, then make sure you take classes at a time that best fits your attention span. lol.

Which types of students will excel at your college?

If you are not ready to leave home just yet or can't affors to do so, then a community college is the best alternative. I was one who was dying to leave after I graduated, but I did not have the money or aid so I entered into a community college. One of the best decisions I have ever made. I am close to home and I have the opportunity to get some of my tougher classes out the way, such as CSI and Calculus I, II, and III. Believe me, a community college is best for these type of classes if you prefer to be taught by people who speak you language.
