In which ways do you feel you are learning and growing?

The diversity requirement has forced me to take classes that I am not good at, or even extremely interested in, but provides me with a much broader perspective in relevant issues. Personally, the teachers I have engaged with are much more concerned with a practical understanding of content and not necessarily drilling in the required concepts, which has helped with my interest in a diverse array of subjects while also giving me cross disciplinary application of "irrelevant" material in my degree.

How are you enjoying your time at this college?

I have enjoyed my short stay at BSC. As a prospective transfer student, I knew I would have limited time to engage in extracurricular activities, but there seems to be no shortage of little events that occur around campus such as community Mario Cart games. The facilities, professors, and people are also amazing, but weather is unforgiving, and there isn't a whole lot to do in the city of Bismarck North Dakota.

What tips can you share with prospective students?

If you want quick and affordable associates, BSC is for you.

What qualities do you have that have best prepared you for success at this institution?

Diligence, responsibility, respect, an open mind, and an optimistic outlook.

In what ways do you feel this college challenges students academically?

Built into the institutional curriculum is requirements on "active learning," which entails frequent communication, application of relevant materials, and engagement. This standard is written into the curriculum, but do not expect a Harvard-level educational experience. Your classes will most likely be less difficult than those at the average university.

How has your college supported your career development and future goals?

Bismarck State College has saved me thousands of dollars for my associates. My education was almost free in the end.

Bismarck State College is the perfect school to go to if you are looking for a college to start out at. It has lots of different degree plans and there are many people available to help you out at all times! The faculty and staff there are also very kind and respectable people.
Tips for prospective students
Don't rush into choosing a major! Start out by taking a few classes that sound interesting along with some generals and keep in touch with your advisor. Your advisor is great for helping you solve problems or come up with ideas you might have never thought about!
Dorm Life
I don't live in the dorms, I live off campus, but from what I have heard from friends and classmates that the dorm life at BSC is very laid back.
Food and Dining
The food and dining at BSC is great! There is a cafeteria where you can eat what the cooks make, or there is the Mystic Snack Bar where you can buy something quick and on the go or order a quick meal and sit down in the dining room to eat.
What to do for fun
There are lots of activities that go on all year on campus! There is also a game room in the Student Union that lots of students hang out at to meet new people!
Bang for the buck
BSC is well worth your hard earned money. The professors are great and are always readily available to help you out if you don't quite understand something.
Greek Life
There isn't really a Greek life at BSC.
Campus Safety
The BSC campus makes me feel very safe to be on. There are campus police that are on patrol 24/7 and they make sure nothing slips past them!

BSC is a great place to get your first two years of generals before going off to a larger, far away, more expensive university. It also provides a great variety of 2 and 4-year degrees. The campus is very nice and easy to find your way around.
Tips for prospective students
If you want to stay a little closer to home and save a lot of money, get your generals done here. It's very easy to find your way around campus if you have a map--I'd skip orientation. Despite being a community college, there are great professors and a decent variety of classes.
Academic Rigor
There is a great variety of classes in each available field. You can take it slow or really challenge yourself. The teachers are very professional and helpful--they always make time for private tutoring, and give out lots of contact information.
Dorm Life
The dorms are very nice--good AC and heat, clean bathrooms, comfortable rooms. Best of all, they are very close. Most people don't even drive to class unless the weather requires it.
Food and Dining
There is a great variety of food in the cafeteria. Also, right down the street from campus (less than 5 minutes away) there are countless restaurants -- Subway, Jimmy John's, Texas Roadhouse, McDonald's, Wendy's, Panchero's, Coldstone Creamery, etc. etc. etc. There are also days of the week where the cafeteria provides free ice cream, and there are often BBQ's going on as well.
What to do for fun
There is a great recreational center with a pool and a gym. The campus is full of parks to hang out in. Just down the street is a strip-mall with lots of stores.
